Leicester, Mass. - Freshman forward Alexandra Fernandes (Tucson, AZ) tallied two goals and goaltender Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA) made four saves as the Becker College Hawks defeated the Mitchell Mariners 2-0 today at Alumni Field in the first round of the New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer tournament.
The Hawks broke thru the scoreboard when Fernandes split the Mitchell defense for a break-a-way goal past Mariner keeper Brittany O'Neil (Old Saybrook, CT) at the eleven minute mark of the first half. The team played the remainder of the first half scoreless as the Hawks held a slim 1-0 lead at the half.
