Women's Soccer Falls Just Short at Pine Manor

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Mitchell College women's soccer team
dropped a 4-3 decision at Pine Manor College in non-conference
action on Wednesday afternoon.
Pine Manor (3-8-1 overall) broke a 2-2 halftime deadlock with a
pair of second-half goals and held off the Mariners for the
victory. Mitchell (3-8-0 overall) made it a one-goal game in the
75th minute on a tally by freshman Kaitlyn McGinn but could not net
the equalizer in the final minutes.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first few minutes of the contest,
the Mariners tied things up almost immediately on a goal from
sophomore Nikki Hoxie in the seventh minute. She notched her
team-leading 11th goal of the season off a pass from sophomore
Leslie Briggs, depositing a shot into the lower left corner of the
net.
The Mariners took their only lead of the game just five minutes
later on an unassisted effort by junior Paige Ehnot. She fired a
shot from 20 yards out that beat the keeper for her third goal of
the season.
Pine Manor tied the game at 2-2 in the 20th minute on a header by
Alicia Grenier, who finished with a hat trick on the day. Her third
goal came in the 60th minute and put Pine Manor up for good. The
Gators then added an insurance goal in the 68th minute for a
two-goal cushion.
McGinn's goal, her second in as many games, came off a corner kick.
Sophomore Angie Smith played a short ball out to McGinn on the
wing; she took one touch and rocketed a shot on goal, bending it
into the top-right corner of the net.
Sophomore Brittany O'Neil made seven saves in goal in the defeat.
Pine Manor goalkeeper Margaret Roberts made 11 stops against 19
shots.
Mitchell returns to conference action on Saturday, October 17 at
home against Becker College. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
