Women's Soccer Falls Short at UMass Dartmouth
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts
Dartmouth's women's soccer team broke a scoreless tie with two
goals early in the second half and held off visiting Mitchell
College, 2-1, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field
Wednesday evening.
Sam Silvia put the Corsairs on top, converting a pass from Erica
Jonasson four minutes into the second half. Silvia set up Tori
Pierce's goal eight minutes later.
The Mariners struck with 4:23 remaining, as senior Marjorie Oliveira fired home a shot for her second goal of the season. A
subsequent shot struck the goal post, but the Corsairs held on for
the victory.
The Corsairs outshot the Mariners, 17-5. Goalkeeper Tanya
Braga made two saves for UMD, while freshmen Kaylee Woodford
made 11 for Mitchell. UMass Dartmouth improved to 3-7-0 overall
while Mitchell dropped to 3-5-0.
Mitchell will next host Elms College on Tuesday, October 5 at 4
