Women's Soccer Earns USC Team Academic Award
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday the College Team Academic Award winners, recognized for their exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2021-22 academic year.
The Mitchell College women's soccer team was among the 800 soccer programs (299 men, 501 women) that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 academic year. Of that total, 151 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
It marked the second time in program history that the Mariners earned the award. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2021-22 academic year.
Mitchell posted a team grade point average of 3.32 this past academic year under head coach Marc Davis. Of the 17 Mariners on the roster, a total of 15 finished above the 3.0 threshold, with 12 achieving a 3.5 or higher.
"This award recognizes that this team, while making continued progress on the field, maintains an excellent level of commitment in the classroom," said Davis. "They truly embody the concept of the student-athlete. We are incredibly proud of them and look forward to their continued success."
The Mariners open the 2022 season on September 1 when they visit Albertus Magnus College at 7 p.m.
