NEW LONDON, N.H. – Senior Bridget O'Connell scored twice in the first half and twice in the second half on Saturday afternoon, helping power the Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team past Mitchell College 7-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at Kelsey Field.
O'Connell added an assist in the win for the Chargers, who improved to 5-2-5 in conference play. Sam Bishop, Stella Lavertue, and Lauren Ardoline added goals for Colby-Sawer, as the home squad outshot the Mariners 38-3 and held a 12-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Senior Francesca Zamarripa (Tampa, Fla.) got off all three of the Mitchell shots, while senior goalkeeper Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME) turned away 16 shots. Landry has now recorded double-digit saves in eight of the Mariner's 12 matches on the season, and leads the GNAC with 173 saves.
Nicole Morello got the start in goal for Colby-Sawyer and played the first half without recording a save. Aurora Proulx played the second half and recorded three saves.
The Mariners (0-11-1, 0-11-1 GNAC) travel to face the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) for their next match on Tuesday, October 22, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 pm. The Chargers (7-4-6, 5-2-5 GNAC) play at Elms College on Wednesday, October 23.
