NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Albertus Magnus College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Falcons opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Nickolas Korponay found the back of the net off an assist from Lorenzo Lauria. Albertus added another before halftime, as Andres Mendez-Suarez scored unassisted in the 37th minute to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break.
Mitchell generated several quality chances throughout the match, totaling 11 shots overall and three on target. Sophomore Sean Khan (Wethersfield, Conn.) paced the Mariners with two shots on goal, while fellow sophomores Diego Chavez (Meriden, Conn.) and Gabe Ansani (Trumbull, Conn.) were active in the attack with multiple attempts.
Lauria extended the Falcon lead midway through the second half with an unassisted strike in the 66th minute, followed by a goal from Aiden Coelho in the 80th to cap the scoring.
In net, junior Jesse Jenkins (Windsor, Conn.) recorded seven saves while facing 21 total shots. Albertus goalkeeper David Lucero logged all 90 minutes and turned away three shots.
The Mariners matched the Falcons with three corner kicks apiece but were unable to convert on any of their opportunities.
Mitchell (1-10-1, 0-5-1 GNAC) will continue GNAC play on Saturday, October 11, when it travels to face Rivier University for a 12 p.m. road match.
